OGTech holds Career Counseling Seminar at
the Indian School Muscat
MUSCAT For the first time ever the
Oman-German University of Technology (OGTech)
will participate in the annual Career
Counseling Seminar at the Indian School
Muscat, tomorrow evening at 7 pm.
“This is the first time we are covering
Germany during our seminar. Due to the
globalization we receive more inquiries from
students and parents about studying in
Germany and other European countries,” said
V.Sayee Kumar, student counselor at the
Indian School Muscat. Therefore the Indian
School decided to include this year
information about studying in Germany and at
OGTech in Muscat. “For the seminar, we are
expecting up to 100 students and parents,”
stressed Kumar. According to the student
counselor, currently most of the students of
the Indian School will study in India, the
US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
“Germany is very well-known for the high
standard in education. Engineering and
medicine are the favorite study programmes.
During our presentation at the Indian School
Muscat we will also talk about how to apply
at the Foreign Academic Exchange Agency (DAAD)
and what study programmes OGTech is offering
in Muscat itself. At OGTech students do not
need to leave the Sultanate and can get an
international education while staying close
to their families,” said Professor Janos
Urai, programme director for Geosciences at
OGTech.
OGTech is affiliated to RWTH Aachen
University in Germany. With about 30.000
students studying at RWTH Aachen, the
University is one of the most prestigious
Universities of Technology in Germany.
“German education in general and RWTH Aachen
in particular guarantee applied education.
The university works closely with national
and international companies. These close
ties between academia and industry enable
the employability of our students,” said Dr.
Christoph Hilgers, Vice Rector of OGTech.
In October OGTech will start with the
Foundation Year including Academic English,
IT, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and
Creative Design. The programme of the course
is adapted from the German “Studienkolleg”
and tailored to meet the specific
educational needs of students in Oman and
the region. “The entry requirements for the
OGTech Bachelor of Science Programmes are
the successful completion of the Foundation
Programme or an equivalent qualification,”
said Professor Urai.
General additional skills that students are
expected to develop during the studies are
creative thinking and problem solving,
individual and team work, communication and
life-long-learning.
