“We want to create awareness about
responsible citizenship” -
Public triathlon as aid for those affected
by cyclone Gonu
To create awareness about responsible
citizenship, the Oman-German University of
Technology (OGTech) will participate in the
public triathlon on Friday afternoon,
starting at the Intercontinental Hotel
Muscat. The triathlon is organized by the
Ministry of Sport Affairs in cooperation
with the Art of Living Foundation and the
Oman Charitable Organization. “Ethics are a
big part of our study programmes at OGTech.
With our participation during the triathlon
and our donations we would like to help the
community and create more awareness of
responsible citizenship in our society,”
said Dr. Barbara Stauble, project advisor at
OGTech while adding: “We are lucky that our
premises were not affected by the cyclone
even though the road next to it was severely
damaged during the cyclone. Therefore we
even feel more responsible to help others
who were not so lucky.”
After Gonu the staff of OGTech donated food
and clothes to Dar Al Atta House. The
management of OGTech decided to donate the
matched amount which will be handed over to
the Omani Charitable Organization after the
triathlon on Friday. “We would like to be a
symbol for our future students,” said
Stauble. OGTech employee Hussein Al Balushi
will represent the university during the
whole triathlon, comprising of 500 meters
swimming, 11 kilometers of cycling and 2,5
kilometers of running.
In September OGTech will start the
foundation year in its premises in North Al
Gubra. The university will offer applied
study programmes such as Applied Geology,
Applied Information Technology, Urban
Planning and Architectural Design as well as
Regional Management and Tourism. The medium
of instruction will be English.
