“We will be able to offer internships in
different sectors for OGTech students” –
Business delegation from North of Germany
visits OGTech
MUSCAT A delegation comprising 18
businessmen from the German cities of
Bremen, Bremerhaven and Oldenburg visited
the Oman-German University of Technology (OGTech)
on Sunday. The delegation is currently on a
four day visit to the Sultanate and is
headed by the President of the Bremen
Chamber of Commerce, Lutz H. Peper.

The business delegation from North Germany
at the OGTech campus, with
Dr.
Barbara Stauble, academic director at OGTech
and two OGTech students
“We are very proud that German professors
are involved at OGTech,” said Peper after
having heard a presentation held by Dr.
Barbara Stauble, academic director at OGTech.
Currently 60 students are studying on the
pre-university programme at the newly
founded OGTech. Next year the university
will start its four year Bachelor Programmes
in Applied Geosciences, Applied Information
Technology, Regional Management and Tourism
and Urban Planning and Architectural Design.
In the future the Bremen Chamber of Commerce
is looking forward to supporting OGTech
students. “We will be able to offer
internships in different sectors for OGTech
students and we would like to donate study
books for the OGTech library,” stressed
Peper. Another member of the delegation,
Erika Becker, Head of the Department
Investor Services, Sales and Marketing would
like to enhance a knowledge-transfer
including a cooperation between OGTech,
Bremen Universities and the industry sector.
“The Bremen University, with 20,000 students
is a success story in itself and is situated
in the Technology Park, in the outskirts of
Bremen,” said Becker.
Most of the members of the delegation are
visiting the Sultanate for the first time.
However the first business link between the
smallest German Federal State of Bremen and
the Sultanate dates back to 1846, when a
ship from Bremen travelled to Zanzibar. The
documents, written in Old German, English
and in Arabic, are still in the state
archive in Bremen.
Peper pointed out that the delegation is
very impressed with the fast development in
the Sultanate. “We have decided to enhance
the access to both markets,” stressed Peper,
who is also managing director of Willenbrock
Foerdertechnik Holding GmbH, a medium-sized
company that offers all-round solutions for
intralogistics and intraplant
transportation. The company has two
associated companies in Bremen and Hanover
and three subsidiaries in Estonia, Lithuania
and Latvia.
“I believe there are many links for
cooperation such as the port development,
logistics and transport. The Sultanate has
gone through a careful development where
traditions and modernity have been
combined,” said Dr. Joachim Peters, Managing
Director of the Oldenburg Chamber of
Commerce and Industry who promised as well
cooperation with OGTech. “We have many
medium-sized companies, that could offer
internships for OGTech students,” Peters
said. However, for a student that would like
to do an internship in Germany, the German
language is imperative. “Most of the
companies are opting for students with a
very good knowledge in German. In most
sectors, except certain IT companies, I
would say, students should speak German,”
said Volkmar Herr, Director International
Affairs, at the Chamber of Commerce Bremen.
During a visit to the Oman Chamber of
Commerce and Industry it was decided that an
Omani business delegation will visit Bremen
next July. On Tuesday the delegation will
leave for Dubai where they will stay for
another four days.
